How to Find New Sailboat Parts
If you are looking to fix something on your sailboat, finding new parts should be easy. There are so many options open to you. First, depending on what type of sailboat you have, you should be able to get a catalog of parts from the dealer where you bought your boat. This is the simplest and most straightforward approach. But if your dealer does not sell parts, you will have to spread your search out. The next step is finding other dealers that sell your type of sailboat to see if they sell parts. Some may; while others may not.
If you’ve had no luck with these alternatives then you will want to find stores that specifically sell boat parts. There is no shortage of these. They can be found over the internet or though your local yellow pages. If there are several stores in your area then visit them all to see which one will give you the best price. If you are looking for a few things, especially if any of them are considered big-ticket items, you may even be able to get a better deal.
Another possibility is to shop through your computer. There are always lots of websites offering to sell whatever it is you might be looking for including parts of your boat. If this is the route you choose, you must check lots of sites, once again aiming to find the best price available to you. Most internet sites will only deal with you if they are shipping the goods to you. Remember to take this added cost of shipping and handling, into consideration when you figure out the overall cost of the parts you are buying. Some websites are connected directly to retail stores so you may be given the option to pick up the goods and in that way save yourself the shipping costs.
If you aren’t in a hurry for the parts you can enlarge your search area and see if someplace further away may have a better price on the new parts for you boat. This will still have those shipping costs added in but if the price is significantly lower it may turn out to be a better deal. Then there is ebay. Ebay is always a possibility for finding interesting items at prices that may sometimes surprise you. Most auctions last five to seven days and then you’ll have to wait a few days for delivery. But if the savings are big another few days won’t hurt. Only bid on new parts from ebay if you think you can trust what you read. If it looks wrong, don’t bid. Make sure you set yourself a limit; you don’t want to get carried away and spend more on the auction price then at that store that is close enough to pick up the boat parts you need. One final possibility is to let the professionals fix your boat for you. They’ll have their own sources for buying parts but this is the most expensive alternative.
