People all over the world collect all kind of things that give them pleasure. The variety and diversity of such collections have no boundaries whatsoever. Everybody, at some time or the other felt like hoarding something – it could be silver ware, handkerchiefs, scarves, shoes, handbags, and so on.

Some people collect for themselves, and some like me, collect for their children. I have always loved toys and my mother indulged in this whim of mine during my childhood. When I had my own children, I wanted to perpetuate this tradition – hence, I started to collect teddy bears for them. Wherever I would go and see a teddy bear, I would instantly make it part of the collectible teddy bears lot for my girls.

I started some seven years ago. Today, after many hundred dollars spent, we are the proud owners of 234 collectible teddy bears each one different from the other. These collectible teddy bears are made of all types of materials – though most of them are plush toys. We also have teddies made of glass, plastic, fiber, wood, and even crystal. The collection is displayed in a wall-to-wall glass and mirror display case, which makes the collection look even more gorgeous than it is.

The girls love to take them out and play with them or show them off to their friends. Many of their friends, actually, got inspired by our collection and started their own collection of toys. There is one boy they know who has some 92 miniature Leo Mattel cars.

The collectible teddy bears lot is growing on an average of two to three every month now, since my daughters too are contributing to the collection with their pocket money. In this way, by the time they will reach their adulthood, we will have a record-breaking collection, which will probably bring tremendous pride and joy to their children.

In order to make it more significant, we have compiled a data base labeling each of the collectible teddy bears with the date of purchase, cost, place and occasion on which it was bought. Years later, we hope, this catalog will be a wonderful walk through the past, where they would remember and relive the joys of their childhood. This collection, which started on an impulse, will some day bring to life the story of our lives and the pleasure we felt while buying each one of these cuddly toys.
