The Culinary Arts University Internship Process

Sometimes the best education one has at school happens while one is away from school. That is, an education is wonderful, but nothing is more desired than practical experience that lets you put skills and talents to use. However, an employer is not all that interested in developing the skill of a newly hired employee. The employer wants a finished product, so to speak. So what can a student do? The student needs to find a school that aids in creating hands-on experience outside the classroom.

The average culinary arts university will offer the courses that you need to embark on a culinary arts career. That is, the culinary arts university will teach a student to prepare food, and hopefully, the student will be able to prepare it well. There also needs to be an extension of the university, however, beyond the classroom because the classroom can only teach so much. As stated before, experience needs to be employed in order to truly create excellence in the learning process. This is why a quality culinary arts university will offer a monitored internship program.

Role of an Internship

An internship program allows a student to get valuable hands-on experience in a limited role without the hassles and pressures that will come with a full time job. This is not to say that the internship will be without responsibility or that there is no standard of excellence that is required, but the company that employs the intern should understand they have taken on a student and should make allowances for the learning process.

Keep in mind, however, that the best internship program will be one that is overseen with active monitoring by the culinary arts university. The culinary arts university should not accept enrollment in an internship program and then not pay attention to the student’s activities on the internship. The university must take an active roll to ensure that the student’s well being is being taken care of.

Far too many businesses take interns for granted and use them as free help. This is unfair to the student. The role of the culinary arts university as it pertains to an internship is to see that both the needs of the student and those of the company are met. The student should be provided with a fair learning environment and the company should be assured that the duties the intern undertakes will be done with utmost care and professionalism.
