A Theme Album Is a Great Scrapbooking Idea
If you’re the kind of scrapbooker that’s always looking for a new excuse to make a scrapbook, then try a mini theme album. It may be the scrapbooking idea you’ve been waiting for.
Make a Mini Album
How about a 6” square album? You can have several working at once, just devote each one to a specific theme, and add to them as you find the time or inspiration. This scrapbooking idea is perfect for gifts or just to get those photos out of the shoeboxes.
Try one for your mom’s birthday. She’ll love having the photos, and you can put her picture on a background of Paris or Venice or wherever she’s always wanted to go. Embellish with pictures of traditional gifts like candy and flowers and add a limo or a Picasso or whatever gift you wish you could afford. Tie it up with a ribbon and present it with some fanfare. Take a picture of her while she looks through it for the next album.
Simple Pages
The small size of the mini album makes simple pages pop. If you hate over-embellishing or feel that you leave too much white space, this is a great scrapbooking idea for you. The small size also helps make the little things more important. For an album of your daughter’s prom, you can do the journaling on cardstock imitating the card that came with her flowers. A little touch like that would be lost on a large page.
Some special events are difficult to complete. It seems like a silver anniversary celebration, for instance, brings in photos for years. So many people take so many pictures and have so many better things to do than get around to sending you copies. An event can seem to take a lifetime to record. You can take out the mini album and add pages to it whenever those photos arrive, since this is a project that doesn’t have to be completed until it’s truly complete. Is that the scrapbooking idea you’ve been looking for?
The small size of the pages also allows the photos to dictate the layout. A small picture can be embellished and leave room for journaling or a second picture, while a large photo may take only a title. The photos dictate the layout and remain the star of each page.
The album itself doesn’t have to be larger than the size of its page. A good scrapbooking idea is to make mini albums only six to eight pages long. You can easily make enough for gifts, since an album that size can be completed in a couple of hours. How about a mini album for all your family members at Christmas that commemorates last Christmas? Use a patterned background paper, and add solid page that pick up the colors in the pattern; everyone’s album can coordinate, too. Be sure to put the recipient’s name inside the album, since they will be passed around.
