Used Horses Trailer
Purchasing used horses trailers can save you a bundle of money in comparison to new trailers. This is an excellent decision, especially if you do not plan to transport your horse or horses frequently or are just getting your feet wet in the world of raising horses. What do you need to look for in used trailers to make sure that you can safely transport your horses?
First of all, you’ll want the used trailer to maintain stability. If the trailer is too wobbly or doesn’t seem as though it will hold up well on long trips, the amount of money you save by purchasing it used cannot make up for the lack of safety. You’ll also want to inspect all latches and locks to make sure the closures are secure and there is no chance of your horses escaping or falling out.
The interior of a horse trailer doesn’t have to be equivalent to a room at the Hilton. However, you should confirm that there is ample room in each individual stall to load and unload the horse, as well as to be sure that the animal is not cramped during the ride. At the same time, the stall should be small enough to prevent unnecessary shifting. In other words, you don’t want your horses causing the used trailer to lose balance and fishtail while you are driving. Likewise, you don’t want your horse to be thrown around inside the trailer and possibly injured during shifting of the trailer that cannot be avoided.
Make sure that the trailer has ample ventilation. You must be able to provide your horses with plenty of fresh air, regardless of the length of the transport. A trailer that is too closed in can not only make it difficult for the horse to breathe but can also make your horses anxious and uneasy, causing them to move about and possibly harm themselves.
