Horses Riding
For many who love horses, riding is a passion. Horseback riding is a pleasant pastime for many, and most children dream of having a horse that they can ride. For beginners, though, there are many things that must be learned about horses and riding before you get on their backs.
First of all, there is a technique to mounting a horse. When getting ready to ride a horse, always mount the saddle from the left side. This is the way horses are trained, and mounting from the right side could spook the horse. The left foot should be placed in the left stirrup, and the right leg thrown over the horse’s back. Once seated on the horse, both feet should be placed firmly in the stirrups before beginning the ride. Reins should be held tightly in one hand but never yanked hard, unless you are in an emergency situation and must stop the horse immediately.
If you plan to ride the horse comfortably, you first need to exert confidence. When you sit on the horse’s back, the beast can tell if you are nervous or unsure of yourself, and this type of uncertainty makes it difficult to control the horse. However, the confident rider has complete submission from the horse and can take control of the ride completely.
If you’ve never ridden a horse before, you should definitely maintain a gentle walking pace. At this rate, you can practice the easy rocking motion that makes for a comfortable ride. The horse’s stride will make this motion feel more natural than sitting stiff with no movement. With a little experience, you can ease into a canter (a fast walk), or a slow jog. Never work up to a full gallop unless you are very familiar with horseback riding. After some practice, you’ll feel like a natural at horseback riding.
