Horses Boarding Stables

For horse owners who have nowhere to keep their horses, boarding stables are essential. While sometimes costly, boarding stables are typically the only option for horse owners that do not have land. When choosing a stable in which to board your horse, you need to be aware of the quality of care your horse will receive at the facility. What should you expect in a boarding stable?

For many owners, it is impossible to get out to the boarding stable daily to ride and care for the horse. In order to be sure that your horse is properly cared for, you should make sure that there is ample staffing at the boarding stable. There should be someone to brush your horse’s coat, mane, and tail daily, as well as to see that your horse is getting the proper amount of food and water. A caretaker or stable hand should also be sure that your horse’s stall is freshly lined with hay on a daily basis to assure cleanliness and comfort of the facility. Stalls should have enough room for the horse to move around unhindered.

Again, a caretaker or stable hand who is trained to handle horses should be available to exercise the horse daily. A pasture should be large enough for all horses in the boarding stables to roam freely within the fenced area as long as weather permits. If pastures are a bit small for the horse to exercise its legs, there should be a corral in which caretakers and hands can run the horses to help expend energy and keep the animal in shape.

Most of all, since horses are not extremely sturdy in terms of illness and disease, health must be monitored closely in any facility. The boarding stable you choose should have a veterinarian either in house or on call at all times.
